Childfree Republican Candidate Poses with Fake Family
Virginia Republican Congressional candidate Derrick Anderson has made the national news for posting campaign footage of him with a woman and three kids who appear to be his wife and children, but are actually the family of a "longtime friend."
Lots of people are making lots of jokes — quite understandably! — but there's a serious side to this ridiculousness: The Republican Party is full of people, right to the top of their presidential ticket, who routinely express rank hostility toward childless people (especially women), as well as toward the gay community (especially men).
This is incompatible with making this country safe with guaranteed reproductive freedoms for all of us.
Anderson clearly did not want to be viewed as childfree or as a gay man, because his party's fellow members and base detest members of those populations, so he presented imagery that was misleading, to put it charitably.
Perhaps instead of trying to trick voters, he should reexamine his party's priorities, and his own.
