Vance: Grandparents Can Provide Free Childcare!

Here we go again: Current Republican veep nominee and super weirdo misogynist creep J.D. Vance continues his forced birth crusade by addressing one of the most pressing issues informing people's choice to remain childfree — the prohibitive cost of childcare — by telling people to just have family members provide childcare for free.
I think one of the things that we can do is make it easier for family models to choose— or for families to choose whatever model they want, right?
So, one of the ways that you might be able to relieve a little bit of pressure on people who are paying so much for daycare is make it so that— you know, maybe, like, Grandma and Grandpa wants to help out a little bit more, or maybe there's an aunt or uncle that wants to help out a little bit more.Note that Vance believes families should be able to "choose whatever model they want," unless, of course, that model is childfree.
But if you don't have children, you're a cat lady who's "been had," has no stake in the country's future, and probably shouldn't be allowed to vote.
What Vance doesn't understand, or doesn't care about, or both, is that reliable and affordable childcare is one of the considerations many women (and men) make as they're weighing their decision about whether to parent.
Who is going to care for the child is one of the most basic questions everyone considering having a child needs to answer, and there is often no obvious solution.
Even if someone has a free childcare provider in their life at the time of a child's birth, that may not always be the case. That person could become ill, or die, or need to return to work, or simply not want to do it anymore. Expecting there will always be someone around to look after a child for free is a bad Plan A without a Plan B.
So it's not surprising that Vance is recommending it. Bad plans are all he's got.
