Politics Is a Valid Reason to Remain Childfree
Just as your family's politics is a valid reason to remain childfree, so is the politics of the place you live.
People who don't live in states or countries where the prevailing politics aren't designed to support pregnant people's health and safety, or to support children or families after birth, love to tell people who do live in those areas to "just move."
But of course that can be difficult or even impossible for a number of reasons, from not having the basis for an application for foreign residency to the simple impediment of not having the funds to do it.
People get stuck where they live for any number of reasons. Jobs specific to limited regions. Being in the middle of a tuition reimbursement program. Finding it too daunting to leave friends or family.
Whatever the reasons, many people are faced with the reality that the place they live may make it challenging to be the kind of parent they want to be and to provide potential children with the lives they want to give them.
In the United States, for instance, raising a child in some states means that a parent can expect certain books to be restricted from their children's schools, or for science education to be compromised, or that a child who is transgender likely won't be able to access the critical healthcare they need.
It's something to consider, among all the other things. If you take a long, hard look at what it would mean to bring a child into the world where politics may dictate limits on your parenting and your child's ability to fully thrive, that's a valid reason to remain childfree.
And you're definitely not alone in making that decision, for that reason.
