Arkansas Governor Says You Must Have Kids to Remain "Humble"

Republican Governor of Arkansas Sarah Huckabee Sanders recently said the following at a townhall event in Michigan:
"Not only do my kids serve as a permanent reminder of what's important; they also keep me humble. You can walk into a room like this, where people cheer when you step onto the stage, and you might think for a second that you're kinda special. Then you go home and your kids remind you very quickly you're actually not that big of a deal. And ours are pretty good at it. [edit] So my kids keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn't have anything keeping her humble."
As I have pointed out before, Vice President Kamala Harris is a step-parent to two children with whom she has a very close relationship. She is a parent; just not a biological one.
That's hardly the only problem with this sentiment, of course.
Insisting that Harris, a woman of color, isn't sufficiently "humble" is just a thinly (very thinly) veiled way of calling her "uppity" — both a racist and misogynist attack, which simultaneously wields her "childlessness" against her.
Politicians are not required to be humble. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who was campaigning with Donald Trump when she said this, has some chutzpah asserting that Harris, or any other politician, owes voters some level of humility when Trump, who is a biological father of five children, is possibly the least humble person on the planet — and pointed evidence that being a parent does not guarantee humility.
It's a ridiculous assertion that doesn't pass basic scrutiny. We all know people with children who aren't humble, and we all know people without children who are.
This is just another spurious political attack that exploits (and thus reinforces) prejudices against childfree people.
It's totally unacceptable. And the cat ladies see you.
